Biologist with an MSc in herpetology. I study the life histories of Anatolian lizards — how long they live, how fast they grow, and where they still hold ground — and work today in clinical analysis at a public health laboratory.
I am a biologist trained in herpetology — the study of amphibians and reptiles — with a particular interest in what an animal's skeleton can tell us about the life it has lived. My work sits at the meeting point of field survey and laboratory analysis: weeks spent walking transects through Aegean gorges, followed by months at a microscope counting the growth marks laid down in a single lizard phalanx.
I read Biology at Hacettepe University in Ankara between 2013 and 2018. Fieldwork came early and stayed: from 2015 I joined survey programmes run by the Ecological Research Association, and in 2016 I completed a clinical internship at Başkent University Ankara Hospital, examining and analysing patient samples. Those two threads — the field and the bench — have run alongside each other ever since.
In 2018 I moved to Çanakkale for a master's degree at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, joining a herpetology group with a long record of work on the herpetofauna of the Biga Peninsula. My research there concerned comparative age determination in lacertid lizards: using skeletochronology to estimate age, longevity and age at sexual maturity in Lacerta trilineata sensu lato, Parvilacerta parva and Ophisops elegans — three species that share a landscape but not a life-history strategy.
Alongside that, I contributed to a faunistic survey of Araplar Gorge in the Karamenderes Valley, documenting the herpetofauna and avifauna of a narrow, steep-sided valley that acts as a refuge in an increasingly cultivated landscape. In 2020 I applied the same survey skills commercially, preparing environmental reports for landscape architecture projects.
Teaching matters to me. In 2023 I volunteered as a biology instructor with the T3 Foundation, working with students who had never held a field guide, let alone a lizard. Watching someone realise that the animal on the wall outside their classroom has a name, a range and a measurable age is the part of this discipline I would keep if I could only keep one.
Since 2025 I have worked as a biologist in the urinalysis laboratory of the Ankara Public Health Laboratory. The subject changed; the method did not. Careful sampling, consistent protocol, honest reporting of what the material actually shows — a gorge and a specimen tube ask the same discipline of you.
